REVEALED: The moderators’ Dancing with the Stars 20 picks!

This week we learned who is taking part in Dancing with the Stars 20. But three moderators have advantages by not participating in DWTS 20 while the other moderators made their DWTS picks.

First, Holly Everman’s pick of Alfonso & Witney won Dancing with the Stars 19 last cycle and as the winning moderator Dancing with the Stars, she has the advantage of not being required to participate in Dancing with the Stars 20.

Second, as DaNica Shirey as the last female contestant on The Voice 7, was saved from the Vote for the Girls loss on The Voice 7, the moderators did not face any punishment for failure (had the Moderators’ Save not been used, the punishment for failure would have been spending six hours in cold temperatures picking up aluminium and steel cans in Marion, Indiana) and Shirey is in the Vote for the Girls Hall of Fame even though Shirey did not win The Voice 7.

There is catch though, since the moderators save was used and Kellie Rock as the winning moderator, by default, also has the advantage of not participating in Dancing with the Stars 20. Kellie also did not participate in Dancing with the Stars 19 as she had the advantage in the fall cycle as Kellie made two great deals taking $5.3 million in two Male Moderator offers in The Voice 7 quarter-final ($2 million) and Rising Star quarter-final ($3.3 million) and earned immunity as her final respective Vote for the Girls picks, DaNica Shirey and Maneepat Molloy were eliminated.

Julia Passalt also took Male Moderator offers totalling $9.25 million in value (including $4 Million in cash, a $3.5 million RV, two 30 night stays in London, England, and Sydney, Australia before the winner of Rising Star was revealed in August and a $1.25 million offer made before The Voice 7 Top 10 Result.)

So that leaves five teams that are participating in Dancing with the Stars 20: Ava & Kymberly, Rhonda, and Kendra on the purple team and Lanise, Tracia, and the guest moderator that will be on the VFTG panel in Spring 2016–Thia Tola.

The picks were revealed on Twitter, and there are 12 couples on DWTS 20. There are no Vote for the Worst picks on Dancing with the Stars since all the moderators’ picks are good and the only way a loss on DWTS can happen if a DWTS couple not chosen by the moderators wins DWTS, unlike the America’s Got Talent and So You Think You Can Dance competitions.

The Twelve couples are:

  1. Emma Slater & Redfoo. Redfoo is a judge on The X Factor Australia. (EDITOR’S NOTE: Ava Zinn and Thia Tola will be moderators on the Australian adaptation of Vote for the Girls.)
  2. Peta Murgatroyd & Michael Sam.  Michael is an NFL football player.
  3. Kym Johnson & Robert Herjavec. Robert is a judge on “Shark Tank”–some show that’s on Friday nights.
  4. Keo Mosepe & Charlotte McKinney. Charlotte is a supermodel from Orlando.
  5. Derek Hough & Nastia Liukin. Nastia is some kinda athlete.
  6. Allison Holker & Riker Lynch. Riker is a singer from Littleton, Colorado and the cousin of Derek Hough.
  7. Tony Dovolani & Suzanne Somers. Suzanne Somers is best known for “Three’s Company.”
  8. Valentin Chmerkovskiy & Rumer Willis. Rumer is the daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis.
  9. Witney Carson & whomever…..
  10. Artem Chigvintesv & Patti Labelle. Patti is a well known singer and recorded the original “Lady Marmalade.”
  11. Sharna Burgess & Noah Galloway. Noah is some type of motivational speaker.
  12. Mark Ballas & Willow Shields. Willow is best known for her role on “Hunger Games.”

Purple Team picks:

The three transwomen (Ava, Rhonda, and Kendra) and Kymberly of Team Ava & Kymberly received Chris & Witney as a WILD card pick because Chris Soules is from the Cedar Rapids DMA (a secondary market of Team Kendra) and Witney Carson is from the Salt Lake City DMA (which WAS a secondary market of Team Kymberly in the fall cycle, and is now considered a secondary market of Team Ava & Kymberly).

According to the moderator rules when making DWTS picks, the contestant and/or professional origin must be supported by the moderator. One perfect example can be on Team Ava & Kymberly is if Josh Kaufman was partnered with Witney Carson.

Purple team pick due to Soules’s origin in Team Kendra territory and Carson’s origin in Team Ava & Kymberly territory. According to the VFTG moderator rules for DWTS picks, had Kymberly remained on the Pink Team moderator panel, Chris & Witney would have respectively been a pick on both Team Kymberly and Team Kendra.

Team Ava & Kymberly
Riker Lynch (partnered with Allison Holker)

Riker Lynch
(partnered with Allison Holker)

Lynch is from the same Denver market as Kymberly as well as the cousin of Derek Hough (according to the moderator rules of Vote for the Girls USA, strict family contractual restrictions does not allow immediate family members serving as moderators to protect the Vote for the Girls’ ratings and revenue. Since January 4, 2015, Ava Zinn and  Kymberly Alvaraz are in a relationship and became the first VFTG USA duo moderator, thus the restriction is nullified)
Nastia Liukin (partnered with Derek Hough)

Nastia Liukin
(partnered with Derek Hough)

Default pick due to strict family contractual restrictions. Ava would have chosen Derek Hough, regardless.
Chris Soules (partnered with Witney Carson)

Purple team pick due to Soules’s origin in Team Kendra territory and Carson’s origin in Team Ava & Kymberly territory. According to the VFTG moderator rules for DWTS picks, had Kymberly remained on the Pink Team moderator panel, Chris & Witney would have respectively been a pick on both Team Kymberly and Team Kendra.
